This series of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service Records primarily contains four types of reports: Annual Narrative Summaries of County Agents and Home Demonstration Agents (collectively for all parishes, 1945-1960), Narrative and Statistical Reports of County Agents and Home Demonstration Agents (for individual parishes, 1918-1975), Narrative and Statistical Reports of Administrative and Supervisory Work with Negroes (collectively for all parishes, 1924-1955), and Narrative and Statistical Reports of Assistant County and Home Agents for Work with Negroes (for individual parishes, 1925-1955). The series also contains Administrative Work and Statisitical Reports of Director of Extension of Louisiana (1913-1959), Appointments of Cooperative Extension Work in Agriculture and Home Economics (1914-1943), circular letters (1930-1963), speeches of C.E. Kemmerly (1946-1970), press releases (1944-1968), plans of work for individual parishes (1925-1971), extension service leaflets (1943-1950), papers of the American Cotton Cooperative Association (1931-1934), and various other reports (1923-1968).

The Louisiana State University Division of Agricultural Extension was established in 1909 to convey agricultural information to persons not regularly enrolled as students in the University. Its work received further impetus when the Smith-Lever Act of 1914 provided that agricultural extension work be carried out by Land Grant universities.
